Now that November is right around the corner, it's time to get prepared for one of the year's most celebrated holidays: Thanksgiving. Whether you are traveling to visit relatives or staying in town and enjoying yourself, there are lots of fun events happening in the greater Alexandria region.

Mount Vernon by Candlelight

If you've ever wanted to explore one of the most famous residences in history, the end of November is a great time. Beginning on Black Friday, you can visit the famous residence of George Washington with a candlelit tour guided by real characters from 18th century Virginia. Tickets are available online.

2018 5K Arboretum Fun Run

Originally scheduled for October, this casual, noncompetitive morning run gives you a great view of D.C.'s fall colors as you proceed through the National Arboretum. Registration is available online and includes a complementary T-shirt for all adult registrants.

The Nutcracker

The classic holiday-themed ballet is running at many different venues throughout the region, including the Classical Ballet Theater in Herndon and the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra. For a full listing of venues and more information, check out this excellent listing on TripSavvy.
