Featured Exhibits at the Smithsonian Institution in 2018

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest collection of museums, with 19 museums currently under the Smithsonian name. Many incredible exhibitions are always on view within the museums, from the rise of hip hop to the art of Burning Man. Here are a few of our favorite exhibits on display now at the Smithsonian Institution:

No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man at Renwick Gallery

No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man is filling the Renwick Gallery and the surrounding Golden Triangle neighborhood with sculptures usually only seen in the Nevada desert. The large sculptures, costumes, and more of this exhibition brings the spirit of Burning Man to DC. This exhibit is on view until January 21, 2019 and is open daily from 10 AM to 5:30 PM.

Radical Inclusion and Tales from the Playa is happening on Friday, September 14 from 10 AM to 6 PM. Join five original founders of Burning Man, participating Burning Man artists, and more for inspiring tales, short films, and talks at the American Art Museum.

Represent: Hip-Hop Photography at the National Museum of African-American History and Culture

Photographs from the Eyejammie Hip Hop Photography Collection are on display at the African American History and Culture Museum until May 3, 2019. The photographs chosen for Represent: Hip-Hop Photography are inspired by four hip hop elements: DJ's, MCs, break dancers, and graffiti. The photo gallery features famous artists, historic movements, and more snaps of the people, places, and events that shaped hip hop. Other pieces that can be found in the exhibit include short films, studio demo cassette tapes, and graffiti tags.

Pushing the Envelope: Mail Art from the Archives of American Art

The 1960s brought a new way of sharing art. Letters and packages were turned into a way to distribute artists' creations. Mediums include pencil, paint, stamp collages, and more. Pushing the Envelope is at the Archives of American Art's Lawrence A. Fleischman Gallery and will be on display until January 4, 2019.
