Here are a few things visitors can look forward to at Mount Vernon this spring:
Distilling in Action - March 19, 11 AM. Mount Vernon began distilling whiskey in 1797. Over two centuries later in 2007, a fully functioning replica of Washington’s original distillery was opened and licensed to manufacture whiskey. During this VIP tour you’ll get an up-close look at what whiskey production was like in the 18th century and receive a special surprise at the end.
Revolutionary War Weekend - April 30 - May 1. During this two-day weekend event visitors can meet soldiers of the Continental Army in full regalia, learn about military medicine in the 1700s, and watch a live demonstration of an artillery cannon.
Spring Wine Festival & Sunset Tour - May 13 - 15. Enjoy a unique variety of wines produced in Virginia and live music from jazz bands playing on the estate lawn. Take a tour of George Washington’s personal wine cellar, then bring a blanket and drink in beautiful views of the Potomac River at dusk.
