The first days of October mean we are just weeks away from Halloween – the scariest time of year! Whether you like a good fright or want to celebrate the holiday with your favorite libation, there are plenty of exciting events going on for Halloween in the D.C. area

Boo at the Zoo & Night of the Living Zoo

The National Zoo hosts two separate events to celebrate Halloween. Boo at the Zoo is a family-friendly attraction with treat stations, animal houses and pumpkin decorating contests. Night of the Living Zoo is a 21-and-up event that offers after-hours access to the zoo, live music, food trucks and an assortment of craft brews. Boo at the Zoo runs for three days from October 21 to 23, and Night of the Living Zoo takes place October 28 from 6:30 to 10 PM.

Fall Harvest Family Days at Mount Vernon

On October 22 and October 23 from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM, Mount Vernon will celebrate autumn with a variety of activities including wheat treading, wagon rides and a straw bale maze. There will also be early-American games, music and dancing.

Nightmare on M street

The longest-running Halloween bar crawl in the District is back for its 18th consecutive year. From 12:00 til 7:30 PM, ticket holders will enjoy great drink specials at over a dozen of the hottest bars and restaurants in D.C. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume and can move freely to and from participating bars in any order.
Need a place to rest after a frighteningly good Halloween in D.C.? The Holiday Inn Express and Suites Alexandria – Fort Belvoir is your ideal hotel near D.C. Besides a complimentary shuttle to the metro, the hotel offers great amenities like a free breakfast bar, 24-hour business center and Wi-Fi, making it the best place around for a Halloween stay in the DMV.
