Once again, law enforcement officers from all over the nation will converge in Washington DC for National Police Week 2015! What is National Police Week? We’re glad you asked. In 1962, President John. F Kennedy signed a proclamation that declared May 15th as “Peace Officers Memorial Day” and the week in which this day falls officially became known as Police Week. This year, Police Week will be held May 12-16. As time has gone on, the national law enforcement officer’s memorial has continued to grow. Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers descend upon Washington, DC to take part in a number of events created to honor both survivors and the individuals who have paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. Here is a quick look at this year’s schedule:
Tuesday, May 12 –
Police Unity Tour – Arrival Ceremony will begin at 2PM at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Begun in 1997, the Police Unity Tour has raised nearly 16 million dollars for the NLEOMF.
Wednesday, May 13 –
27th Annual Candlelight Vigil @ 8 PM, sponsored by NLEOM, no tickets required. Fraternal Order of Police DC Lodge #1 Events, 11 AM – 2 AM; enjoy music, entertainment, food and a bar.

Saturday, May 16 –
National Police Survivors Conference and C.O.P.S. Kids/Teens Day 2. While there is an official schedule of events throughout the week, the city will be bustling with ad hoc meetings relative to the Police and their staff. These meetings can be as much of an attraction for attendees as the event itself. Although there are still three months until Police Week kicks off, between 25,000 and 40,000 are expected to attend and D.C. area hotel rooms will begin to go quickly so consider Holiday Inn Express & Suites Alexandria – Fort Belvoir! Due to our proximity to the Huntington Metro, we provide an on-demand shuttle to/from the station from 7 AM to 10 PM weekdays. We also provide parking, breakfast, Wi-Fi, a convenient centralized D.C. location and award winning service for any Police Week attendee.
