Mount Vernon Celebrates Black History Month
The slave quarters housed the skilled craftsmen, the house slaves, and the laborers that maintained the mansion and estate on a daily basis. The refurbished quarters are set with reproduction clothing, tools, furniture, cookware, ceramics, toys and other personal accessories of the men, women, and children who resided there.
The presentation runs daily from February 1 - February 28 (except for February 18), and there is a daily wreath-laying ceremony at the slave memorial.
