The National Museum of African American History opened on September 24, 2016. The idea originated in the early 20th century, but official legislation approving the museum did not pass until 2003. The opening ceremony was attended by prominent members of the African-American community including President Obama, Stevie Wonder and congressman John Lewis.
The museum holds over 37,000 interesting and inspirational artifacts that provide powerful insight into the story of the African-American people....
