Washington Nationals 2016 Midseason Update

How are the Nats doing this year?

Pretty well. The Nationals are in first place in the NL East, 4.5 games ahead of the 2nd place Miami Marlins as of this writing. Young ace Stephen Strasburg is so far having the best season of his career, with a 2.51 ERA and a 13-0 record. He is the first NL pitcher since 1912 to start the season with 13 straight wins.
Perennial all-star Bryce Harper is also having a great year - he’s already knocked in 19 home runs and has over 50 RBI, while seasoned slugger Daniel Murphy is batting a phenomenal .350 with 67 RBI. Looking ahead, the Nats have big series coming up on the road against the Giants during the last week of July, the Orioles during the week of August 22, and the Mets during the second full week of September.

Things to do Around Nationals Park

Even if you’re not a baseball lover, the Southeast Waterfront area around Nationals Park is a happening neighborhood with plenty to do. Just a few activities in the vicinity include:
  • The Yards Park, which features walking trails, boat docks, fountains and picnic areas
  • Washington Canal Park, a LEED Gold certified park area with fountains, trees and the Il Parco Italian café
  • The Titanic Memorial, a 13-foot granite statue along the waterfront that honors the memory of those who perished in the RMS Titanic
If you’re heading to a Nats game or simply want to check out the southeast waterfront area and need a place to stay, the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Alexandria - Fort Belvoir is the ideal choice. A free shuttle to the metro makes it easy to get into DC, while comfortable beds and furnishings plus a complimentary breakfast make your stay extra sweeter. After spending time at the old ball game this summer, relax and unwind at the Holiday Inn.
