Where to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo 2018 in Alexandria

While the holiday was originally created to celebrate an important win for Mexico in the Franco-Mexican War, many people mistakenly believe that Cinco de Mayo is the country’s celebration of independence. Mexico’s official day of independence is actually in September, but the party is much bigger on Cinco de Mayo.

Whether you’re looking to toss back some margaritas with your pals or want to take in some authentic Mexican culture, there’s plenty of fun to be had in and around Alexandria this year.

Alexandria bars and restaurants for Cinco de Mayo 2018

Drinking and eating are some of the most popular ways to commemorate Cinco de Mayo, and there’s no shortage of places for these activities in Alexandria. Don Taco and Los Cuates are two popular Mexican restaurants in Old Town. El Paso is a great option on Route 1, just down the road from our hotel. A little further away from the city, check out Don Tito in Arlington, or Rosa Mexicano across the water in National Harbor. All these establishments are highly-reviewed and offer excellent Mexican dishes and drinks.

Festivals and other events

If you are looking for a more substantial event or party, The Manor in DC is holding a Cinco de Mayo day party near DuPont Circle. For those who are interested in a laid-back, informative celebration of the day, check out the Mexican Cultural Institute in D.C. Also be sure to keep up with the Smithsonian Latino Center, which curates Latino exhibits at the various museums and Smithsonian Institutions throughout the city.
