Where to Celebrate Labor Day 2018 in Alexandria
Most people associate Labor Day with the end of the summer, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to come to a close! There are still plenty of events to look forward to, especially on Labor Day Weekend itself. Whether you are seeking excitement in Alexandria itself or the surrounding area, check out these events to cap off the summer with some great memories.

Visit the 2018 National Book Festival

Hosted by the Library of Congress each year, the National Book Festival presents an opportunity for D.C. locals to express their love for reading. At this free event taking place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on September 1, you can enjoy presentations by famous authors in several genres, panel discussions, and family-friendly activities. This year’s author speakers include former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Catch a Birchmere Concert

The Birchmere is one of the area’s most historic musical venues. It’s been open for decades and is located just a few minutes from Old Town Alexandria. The Birchmere has a particularly solid lineup this Labor Day weekend, kicking off with surf guitar legend Dick Dale on Thursday August 30th. Also performing for Labor Day weekend are soul crooner Jeffrey Osborne and saxophonist Kim Waters.

Cheer on D.C. United at Their New Home

The just-opened Audi Field in Southwest Washington is a state-of-the-art home for soccer – the perfect place to welcome European star Wayne Rooney, who officially joined with the D.C. United club earlier this year. For Labor Day Weekend, Rooney and his teammates will take on Atlanta United FC on Sunday, September 2. You can also catch them at home earlier in the week on August 29 against the Philadelphia Union.

Where to Stay for Labor Day 2018 in Alexandria and D.C.

Whether you plan to stay around Alexandria or want to venture into D.C. for Labor Day, you need a restful place to stay. This holiday weekend, come back to the quiet comfort of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Alexandria – Fort Belvoir to enjoy a complimentary shuttle to the metro, WiFi in every room, and free breakfast each morning.
