Winter and Spring Events at Mount Vernon
Winter and spring 2015 bring new special events and educational opportunities to Mount Vernon. History buffs and music lovers will appreciate the special programming on the estate’s updated calendar.

An exclusive series of concerts performed by members of the National Symphony Orchestra featuring chamber music and a brief educational talk about Mount Vernon history will delight all that attend.
Each performance will be followed by a reception with champagne and gourmet chocolate with the musicians. Concert dates are February 24th and March 24th at the Robert H and Clarice Smith Auditorium.

Several tours offer new insights in to Mount Vernon and the Nation’s first President.  Go behind the scenes of Mount Vernon with in-depth tours including the third floor and basement.  Or, learn how Washington selected decorative and fine arts for the home with a new themed tour, The Taste and Style of George Washington.  Explore all of the specialty tour options offered at the Mount Vernon website.  Visit our Alexandria hotel website for information about our Mount Vernon Package that includes two tickets to Mount Vernon and overnight accommodations at our Alexandria hotel.

Numerous events commemorate this special weekend at Mount Vernon.  From George Washington’s favorite breakfast of “hoecakes swimming in butter” to dancing with 18th century stars, reenactors mingling with visitors and a wreath laying ceremony, the celebration of George Washington’s 283rd birthday will be an educational, fun-filled event for the entire family.  On February 16th admission is free of charge in honor of Washington’s Birthday.  Plan your President’s Day weekend around the special lineup of events.
